Save $5–$10/mo bundling Energy (Gas & Electricity)

Reality check: Energy usage rates and supply charges vary significantly by distributor. Compare your actual kWh and MJ rates on Energy Made Easy (energymadeeasy.gov.au) before switching — a slight energy price difference will quickly wipe out a $10/mo broadband discount.

Frequently Asked Questions & Consumer Guide

A few details that can change the real cost of an NBN or mobile plan. If coverage is the problem, plan your router and mesh placement with the Wi-Fi heatmap.

Which Australian NBN providers offer free CGNAT opt-out?

Aussie Broadband, Leaptel, Superloop, Tangerine, More Telecom, and Neptune Internet provide free dynamic public IPv4 addresses or one-click CGNAT opt-outs in their portals or customer support. Telstra and Optus assign public dynamic IPv4 addresses by default.

Other providers like Arctel, Flip, Dodo, SpinTel, and Vodafone charge $5/month for a static public IP, while TPG and iiNet charge $10/month.

What is a 30-day cancellation notice?

Several Australian telcos (notably Superloop, Exetel, Swoop, Dodo, TPG, iiNet, and SpinTel) enforce a strict 30-day written cancellation notice policy in their Critical Information Summaries (CIS).

When you switch (churn) to another provider, your old provider continues charging you for 30 full days after your cancellation request. By contrast, providers like Aussie Broadband, Leaptel, and Tangerine have no notice period and provide pro-rata refunds.

Why do 28-day prepaid plans cost more over a year?

A 28-day prepaid recharge cycle renews every 4 weeks. Because there are 365 days in a year, a 28-day plan renews 13 times per year, not 12.

A $30 recharge every 28 days costs $390 over 13 recharges, or $32.50 per calendar month on average. The comparison table converts 28-day prices to a monthly equivalent.

What is the difference between the full Telstra network and Telstra Wholesale?

Telstra operates two distinct mobile footprints:

  • Telstra Full Retail Network (99.6% population coverage): Used directly by Telstra and exclusively by Boost Mobile. Provides the largest regional, rural, and remote coverage footprint in Australia.
  • Telstra Wholesale Network (98.8% population coverage): Used by MVNOs like ALDImobile. Excellent in metro and regional towns, with a slightly smaller reach in deep bushland.
Are 365-day annual SIM cards worth it?

A 365-day pack is paid upfront and includes a full-year data allowance. Examples include ALDImobile's $95/year 30GB pack and annual packs from amaysim, Boost and Kogan. For light-to-moderate use, some work out to $8 to $15 per month.

How does the on-device "What do you pay now?" calculator protect privacy?

The amount is stored in your browser's local storage (localStorage). It is not sent to JRS Digital, included in analytics or added to shared links.

How does anonymous community plan verification protect my privacy?

A submission contains the speed rating, billing accuracy, state and any optional note you provide. It does not require an account, name or email address. The service uses your IP address in memory to create a temporary daily rate-limit hash; it does not store the address. Feedback notes are kept for up to 180 days for moderation, then removed after they are included in aggregate scores.

Are NBN and mobile bundle discounts worth it in Australia?

Telcos like Aussie Broadband, Superloop, TPG, SpinTel, and Vodafone offer $5 to $15 per month discounts when combining broadband with an active mobile SIM on the same account.

However, bundling is only worth it if the provider's mobile plan fits your data needs. In many cases, pairing a standalone budget MVNO (such as Boost, ALDImobile, or Felix) with a standalone low-cost NBN promo results in a lower overall annual household bill than an all-in-one bundle.

What are the best NBN and mobile bundle plans in Australia?

The best NBN and mobile bundle plans in Australia depend on your household speed tier and data needs:

Superloop & Exetel: Offer continuous $5 to $10/month multi-service discounts when pairing NBN 50, 100, or 250 with eligible 4G or 5G mobile SIMs, backed by daily speed boosts.

Aussie Broadband: High-reliability telco with Australian-based support providing multi-product discounts across NBN and 4G/5G mobile services on a single invoice.

SpinTel: Often provides the lowest entry cost across both NBN and SIM-only mobile plans, making their combined package one of the cheapest overall annual outlays.

Use our interactive bundle comparison tool to view true 12-month net outlays after promotional discounts expire.

What is the difference between mobile broadband and fixed NBN in Australia?

Fixed NBN (FTTP, HFC, FTTC, FTTN) uses physical wired lines directly into your premise. It provides consistent speeds, unmetered data allowances, and minimal latency (typically 5–15ms), which is essential for multi-device households, video conferencing, and online gaming.

Mobile Broadband & 5G Home Internet connect wirelessly to nearby cellular towers. While 5G can deliver impressive peak download speeds at competitive introductory prices, speeds fluctuate based on local tower congestion and weather, data caps may apply on lower tiers, latency is higher and more variable, and telcos enforce carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT) without static IP options.
