What is NBN 500?
NBN 500 is the Home Fast tier after NBN Co's September 2025 speed upgrade, which lifted Home Fast from 100 Mbps to up to 500 Mbps download on eligible connections. Most plans upload at 50 Mbps, and a few offer 200 Mbps upload.
Can I get NBN 500 at my address?
Only on Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) connections. Fibre to the Node and Fibre to the Curb top out around 100 Mbps. Some FTTN homes qualify for a free fibre upgrade when ordering a faster plan, so ask your provider.
Is NBN 500 worth it over NBN 100?
Often, yes. Since the upgrade, many providers charge only a few dollars more for NBN 500 than NBN 100, and some NBN 500 plans cost less over the first year than NBN 100 plans. Compare the cheapest first-year cost on both pages before you choose.
What equipment do I need for NBN 500?
A Wi-Fi 6 or newer router to get much more than 300 Mbps over Wi-Fi, and gigabit Ethernet for wired devices. Older Wi-Fi 5 routers will cap your real-world speed well below 500 Mbps.
