What is NBN 25?
NBN 25 is the entry-level NBN speed tier, often sold as Basic or Standard. It gives download speeds up to 25 Mbps and upload speeds of 5 or 10 Mbps, depending on the plan. Most NBN 25 plans we track list typical evening speeds of 25 Mbps.
Is NBN 25 fast enough for my home?
For one or two people who browse, stream in HD and make video calls, it usually is. Netflix recommends about 15 Mbps for one 4K stream, so two 4K streams at once, big game downloads or heavy uploads are where NBN 25 starts to feel slow. That's when NBN 50 is worth a look.
What's the difference between NBN 25/5 and 25/10?
The second number is the upload speed in Mbps. 25/10 helps if you upload large files, back up photos to the cloud or spend a lot of time on video calls. For browsing and streaming, 25/5 is usually enough.
Why do NBN 25 plans cost more after the promo?
Many providers discount the first 6 or 12 months to win new customers, then move you to the ongoing price. We rank plans by the total over the first 12 months so a short, deep promo doesn't hide a high ongoing price.
Is NBN 25 much cheaper than NBN 50?
Sometimes the gap is small. Compare the first-year cost of the cheapest NBN 50 plan before you settle on NBN 25, because a few dollars a month can double your speed.
